President Chavez inspired the people of the world by his courageous defiance of the neoliberal agenda created by the imperialists. He firmly stood his ground against attempts by US imperialism to overthrow his government, to foment dissension in Venezuelan society, and to engage in all forms of interference, subversion, bullying and control.

 

He advanced a social program that empowered the previously dispossessed and exploited peoples of Venezuela. He built unity in the ranks of governments and peoples opposed to imperialism. He has made great contributions to humanity.

 

The true test of his enduring legacy will be the capacity of the people and government of Venezuela to strengthen and deepen the social reforms he initiated and supported, and the capacity of the international community to frustrate all renewed efforts by US imperialism to destabilise the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and to subvert Venezuelan society.
